How should we engage with YOU on planning matters?

Rochford District Council has launched a consultation on how we should seek your views as part of the planning process.

Planning affects our everyday lives – it’s not just about future housing development, roads and railways.

It’s also about everything from local doctors surgeries and hospitals, to schools, to our access to parks and open spaces. It even affects access to utilities – including broadband coverage!

Therefore, the Council is updating its ‘Statement of Community Involvement’ (SCI) and wants your input. This document sets out how local residents and other interested parties can expect to be consulted and engaged in the planning process.

The amendments relate to Neighbourhood Planning and Data Protection. This consultation will close at 5pm on Thursday 29th August.

The simplest way to view the proposed amendments and make comments is by visiting www.rochford.gov.uk/sciconsultation

Rochford District Council’s Portfolio Holder for Planning, Cllr Ian Ward, said: “We all care about the future of the Rochford District because it’s our home, or our place of work, and it’s where our children are growing up, so we have a vested interest in ensuring our towns, villages and the communities within them thrive.

“That’s why we want everyone to sign up to our Planning Consultation system, so that they can ensure their views are heard on policies regarding not just housing development, but also roads, schools, doctor’s surgeries and much, much more.

“I would urge everyone to sign up, whilst also taking part in our ‘Statement of Community Involvement’ consultation, which is about how we engage in the future.”

You can also view the proposed amendments by clicking the link in ‘Related Content’ at www.rochford.gov.uk/sciconsultation, or by inspecting a paper copy in Council Offices and local libraries during hours of opening.

If you are unable to use the online consultation portal, you are also able to send any comments you have by email to planning.policy@rochford.gov.uk or by post to:

Please note, we are unable to accept anonymous comments and any comments of an abusive, discriminatory or unlawful nature will not be accepted.

Please make any comments you have on the proposed amendments by 5pm on Thursday 29th August as late comments may not be accepted.

What will happen next?

Once the consultation has closed, the Council will consider the comments received and, if necessary, consider revising the amendments. After this process has taken place, the Council will consider whether to adopt the amendments into its Statement of Community Involvement at which stage the proposed amendments will be made.

  • And simultaneously Developer’s are now advertising
their coming developments ( Great Wheatleys and
Lubbards Farm ) some 2-3 years before the formal
Planning process ( Local Plan ) is concluded. These
Developer’s , along numerous private landowners,
are currently only at the “Call for sites” stage – it will
be interesting to see which ones are now chosen…?
