A report by Friends of Earth rated Rochford Council (52%) in the bottom 5 of 55 Councils for “Performance on climate change by local authority in the East of England (inc Northamptonshire)

The Conservative led Council makes much of its recycling record and uses this particularly at election time. Whilst it’s important aspect, they need to take action now and it would appear that they need to significantly ‘up their game’ to improve on this dreadful ranking.

Councils were assessed in different categories including renewable energy, public transport, lift-sharing, energy efficiency at home, waste recycling, and woodland cover.

It’s going to take more than a few electric charges and with the formation of a ‘working group’ to tackle the issues that we are facing in the district, they really have got their work cut out to come up with innovative and credible actions.

They could’ve have easily started with their proposed building of the new Council offices but we have heard from officers that this won’t be happening due to cost!
