We hear today that the current Managing Director is to take a permanent vacation in the form of retirement. In an official press release the Council says…

The Managing Director of Rochford District Council has announced he is to retire after more than four years in the role.

Shaun Scrutton has been the Managing Director at the Council since 2016 and will step down at the end of October. He joined Rochford District Council in 1985 and has held a number of different senior roles, including Head of Corporate Policy and Head of Planning and Transportation, the latter role being occupied for 15 years.

Under his leadership over the last four years, the Council has been able to successfully manage its resources while progressing ambitious plans for future transformation. He has ensured that the Council has been central to key partnership working with other local authorities and partners.

Speaking about his time at the Council, Mr Scrutton said “It has been a pleasure and a privilege to work at Rochford. The district has, of course, changed over that time, but it remains a great place to live and work.

“Over the years, I have worked on a wide range of projects, everything from improving provision for homeless families, town centre enhancements and the airport and business park, as well as developing close and productive relationships with neighbouring authorities and strategic partners.

“I have worked with many fantastic colleagues, too numerous to mention, and I’d like to thank them all for their help and support.”

He added, “I’m now looking forward to a new set of opportunities and challenges.”

The Focus team doesn’t know who will supersede Mr Scrutton as Managing Director and with all the talk of combined authorities, it may not be an attractive proposition for anyone who is looking for long term employment. We will update residents if and when we know more about this.
