We had an interesting question from a resident, who was concerned about why there were police at Rayleigh railway station lat night ensuring that everybody coming in and out of the station went through a full body scanner.
We emailed PC Wyn Sharp who promptly replied that it was a joint venture between British Transport Police and Rayleigh Neighbourhood Team,
using a metal detector. Their aim was to raise the awareness of knife crime etc, reassure the public, educate youngsters as to the law around carrying weapons/knives and to help keep knives out of the town. After a couple of hours they took it to the Pink Toothbrush and it was a condition of entry there.
He advised there were “Many very positive responses from the public and a drug detection to boot”
