Not enough Secondary School Places in Rayleigh

There’s a planning application at 58 Victoria Avenue Rayleigh. Basically it’s to knock down one bungalow and build 18 flats and maisonettes. There were some objections to this application and the officers are recommending refusal.

We will write more about this application later but one interesting issue is about secondary school places. The County Council have said that Fitzwimarc is expected to be full by April 2010 and Sweyne Park is fully subscribed and expected to have a deficit of 17 places. They estimate that this development will result in a further two secondary school places required and so ask for a payment of 25,636 pounds to cover this!

There was also a story in last night’s Evening Echo about a family in The Chase , Rayleigh, who can’t get a place for their son at a Rayleigh secondary school.

It shows just how full our schools are becoming because of the overdevelopment of Rayleigh.

Stephen Castle, our Tory County Councillor for Rayleigh North, is in charge of schools in the county.
