The low point of yesterday’s canvassing was the lady who slammed the door saying “you’re all on the gravy train”.

But the highlights were:

The gentleman who, amazingly, says he votes for me because of something I did about 17 years ago.

The chap who tore up a rival’s election leaflet in front of me, just to show me what he thought of them…..

But best of all, the 88 year old lady who made me a cup of coffee and gave me a delicious peanut biscuit she’d baked herself.

  • We’re building up a nice collection here! Of particular interest is the UKIP one – they are using the good old British image of Winston Churchill as part of their anti-Europe campaign which I would find particularly hilarious if it weren’t so misleading. Since when was Churchill anti-European?!
Then we have the Conservative leaflet but enough for one day…

  • I have no strong feeling in support of any particular political party, but from a personal perspective I have absolute faith in the Lib Dem team in Rayleigh to support local residents with local issues. I have had no dealings with any local or district councillors in the 13+yrs I have lived in Rayleigh. However we have had support from Chris Black on many local issues and have every confidence in his genuine, dedicated approach.

For me, who to vote for in the local elections is easy – just read this site and see how involved they all are!

However if it were a general election and trusting MP’s and knowing who to vote for……….. that’s a different story!!

  • Sid, i think the Spitfire is a potent symbol of our struggle for freedom and independence from a European based dictatorship. Perhaps as a Eurofile the Irony is lost on you? I think you might find the expenses situation more in the minds of the electorate than spitfires?

  • Geoff, you make a brave riposte but I think you’d gain credibility by gracefully conceding that this is a bit of an amusing own goal by the BNP.

By the way, talking of leaflets, it seems that the ‘people’ in one of the BNP leaflets aren’t real voters at all – at least not in Britain.

  • DH – thank you for your very kind words. I’m lucky to be in a party that gives me freedom of action to do stuff like this website. And even more lucky to have residents who take a genuine interest in their community.
