Latest Unemployment Figures Are Slightly Down Locally

From the Office For National Statistics website:

People of working age claiming Jobseekers Allowance on 9th July :

Rayleigh – 1293 (down from 1303 people on 14th May)
Rochford and Southend East – 3323 (down from 3337)
Castle Point – 1818 (down from 1901)
Southend West – 1876 (down from 1923)

Presumably they will start to go up again when the seasonal summer jobs are over…..

  • Martin, if you are claiming Incapacity Benefit or ESA you can not claim Job Seekers Allowance at the same time – the unemployment figures will only show those actually claiming JSA. What I would say however, is that not everyone that is entitled to claim JSA actually does, and therefore the true unemployment figures will be slightly higher than those reported.
