Last Night’s Development Control Committee

A brief rundown on the results of last nights meeting :

1 Gate at The Bailey -Passed after a bit of discussion
2 Convert off licence at East Street Rochford into 4 flats — Passed despite misgivings about no parking provision.
3 External patio and “jumbrellas” at Rayleigh Lodge — Refused on the grounds of noise and detriment to the neighbours amenities.
4 Cheapside West/Boston Ave — Refused due to inadequacy of the ecological report.(the officers changed their minds at the eleventh hour on this one, they had previously recommended approval)
5 Weir Gardens flats — refused, overdevelopment and out of character with the street scene.
They will obviously go to appeal. Peter Webster caused merriment when he declared that the comments of the Town Council were the most important thing in the report, Ron thought he was going to explode at the laughter and Ron had to say how he and the other Lib Dems supported everything he said!
6 ASDA various alterations — Passed with one vote against (Ron – Chris was unavoidably absent from the meeting)

  • Good news regarding the two refusals of the Rayleigh developments. Could this be the start of the council taking our views seriously or are they just placating us temporarily. Is this the calm before the storm when they recommend that the 1,800 houses be built in Rayleigh. Oh my cynical mind!!!
