It’s Better In Basildon?

We nearly missed this story in the Echo about Basildon Borough Council…

BASILDON Lib Dem group leader Geoff Williams is back on the council cabinet.
.
The veteran councillor replaces his son, fellow Lib Dem councillor, Ben Williams, who resigned as a councillor in May after getting a politically-restricted job at Westminster after the Tory-Lib Dem coalition Government was formed. He is now specialised adviser to the Chief Whip.
.
Following the resignation, council leader Tony Ball decided to keep one Lib Dem and one Labour councillor on the cabinet, the key decision-making committee of the council, which is also made up of eight Tories.

On Rochford DC, the cabinet is kept as a purely Conservative body, with councillors outside the cabinet not even allowed to speak at cabinet meetings.

Politics in Basildon have traditionally been regarded as more partisan than in say, Rochford, but that’s clearly not the case now…

  • Obviously Transparency ‘is not us’ Shame because this is one time that RDC could have shown the residents that they have us at heart instead of their ideology. We do not need to be reminded all the time! In all the places I have lived in, this council is the most blinkered, intransigent, undemocratic authority I have lived under.
