Conservatives Cllr Mike Steptoe and Cllr Cheryl Roe, put forward a motion at last nights Full Council to reinstate the front counter service at Rayleigh Police Station which was closed in 2016.
From Cllrs M J Steptoe and Mrs C E Roe:-
“That this council fully supports the campaign and calls on the PFCC and the Chief Constable to reopen the public/front desk at Rayleigh Police Station and for beat officers to hold regular bi-weekly meetings for the public to attend at key venues in the District “
We are pleased that the Conservatives have called for this U-turn and have reflected upon the damaging effects of the drastic cuts made to police budgets.
Our Lib Dem Cllrs fully supported the motion and hope that PFCC and Chief Constable will be able to work to find a way to reopen the front counter.
I back this initiative.
The best thing that could happen to Rayleigh in a long time!!!
Police in our town again, would make us all feel safer,
A definite necessity in the current climate of bad behaviour to make the community feel safer.
We need to feel safe in Rayleigh & need a Police presence in the town
Rayleigh police station is already fully operational with 24/7 uniform response officers and detective teams working from the building. The only part that’s closed is the front office which played no part in actually keeping people safe And probably didn’t get a lot of visitors anyway. I’d rather they spent their money on other things that do make a difference.
I also fully back this initiative.
I back this completely. It should re open Rayleigh needs it more than ever !
