Application Reference:18/01187/FUL
Planning Portal Reference Number:PP-07501370
Address Of Proposal:Pear Tree 750, New Park Road, Hockley, Essex, SS5 5JX
Proposal:Change Use Of Land For Siting Of Caravans For Residential Occupation As a Private Gypsy/Traveller Site Comprising One Static Mobile Home And Three Touring Caravans With Hard Standing And Cess Pool (retrospective).

Another gypsy/travellers site has now been approved in our district, completely unopposed by any of the Conservative ward Councillors. This is probably due to their own failings to deliver an allocated gypsy/travellers site in the district.

In view of the very special circumstances of the applicant and the shortage of sites available to provide for the un – met demand for Gypsy site provision within the District, the review of site provision in the Council’s emerging Local Development Framework and given the restricted size of the site.

Previously, planning applications for this site had been refused but the Council seems to have ‘changed it’s tune’ as trying to defend appeals without having an allocated travellers site doesn’t give a very good defence and ultimately leaves it out of pocket.

We think it’s about time some positive action was taken on the allocated travellers site but fear this won’t be forthcoming as we’ve already witnessed both the portfolio holder for planning and the managing director not wanting to take control of this ‘hot potato’
