When Chris Black was up at Websters Way Car Park, pushing about 40 Tetra Paks into a recycling container , he was asked by a resident there whether they could be collected as part of the normal kerbside recycling. This seemed a very good question to ask of the new cabinet member that deals with recycling, Cllr Michael Steptoe!
The answer is that the council would indeed like to recycle Tetra Paks as part of the fortnightly recycling, and is trying to arrange this. So watch out for news…..
Chris
Great idea could, you also bring up Expanded Polysyrene (EPS) this material is a plastic that is 100% recyclable into Insulation (the same as they pump into walls as cavity insulation),yet when put into landfill takes 400 years to degrade. Thats why they build roads on it.
EPS is the white stuff we all get around new TV,toaster and washing machines and as I mentioned before on here RDC say it is not recyclable this is not true the reason it is not collected at municible dumps etc is because it is light it does not help the recycling tonnage returns. that is no reason not to recycle just because the target is in tonnage.
To see more have a look at this website

The nearest plant is in Chelmsford which is nearer than dumping it in landfilld at Tilbury.
I will pass this on to Michael Steptoe, Martin
Mike Steptoe (the cabinet member) tells me he will raise the issue of polystyrene at his next meeting with officers.
