The District Council are stressing this at the moment with a terse statement on their website:
Important Information – Compostables Collection
Please ensure that your compostables bins are left outside your property for collection by 7am on your allocated day to guarantee collection.
The Echo has more background:
RESIDENTS are being urged to put their bins out early to make sure they are collected.
.
Operational changes are being made to the way Rochford District Council collects rubbish to ensure collection vehicles will have shorter distances to travel to the transfer facility.
.
Rochford District Council?s head of environmental services, Richard Evans, said: ?While we have always advised residents to present their bins before 7am many collections are currently made after this time.
.
“However, under the new arrangements these collections may be earlier so we urge people to ensure their bins are presented by 7am in order to guarantee their collection.”
.
The changes will be in place from June 1.
How has this change been cascaded to residents? Was it on a flyer that I may have missed?
I don’t visit the council website very often (if at all), and only read the Echo online on occasions.
Having recently received the “red sticker of shame” on my unemptied compost bin, I am beginning to think that Rochford’s excellent recycling scheme is being ruined by petty regulations. My crime was to have placed “turf” in my compost bin, when in actual fact I had pulled a small clump of grass out of my flower bed, shaken off the excess soil, and placed it in the bin. Perhaps I should wash up all the weeds I remove from my garden in the same way I have to with the food packaging I recycle.
never mind 7 am. they quite often empty our garden bin at 06.45 !!!
