Just lifted from the BBC Essex travel site:
A127 Essex – A127 Southend Arterial Road in Thundersley blocked and queueing traffic at Fairglen Interchange, because of flooding. Congestion on A130 southbound to Rettendon Turnpike and to the Progress Road junction.
Heaven help anyone trying to get in & out of Rayleigh this morning! It was gridlock on London Road, Hockley Road, Station Crescent, & Hambro Hill, that I know of personally. What is going to happen when Kingley Grange is completed, plus the housing on the fields the other side of Lower Barn Farm? Then there are all the smaller developments, infills & front gardens filled in for car parking. The areas that flood are the same old ones of Rayleigh Weir, Fairglen Interchange, Watery Lane, Lower Road etc. What changes is the increase in traffic, & decreasing fields & woodlands for the water to go.
I suggest the Planners start building The Ark now!
They said last August was a one off – well it obviously wasn’t. Weather patterns are changing and we get more “severe” incidents now. Planners need to take this into account and get their heads out of the sand. Fields on Rawreth Lane where they want to build were under water this morning, as were most of the lanes/roads off Rawreth Lane. Where is the water supposed to go once 550 houses are built? Infrastructure yet again unable to cope with it, we simply cannot have this development going ahead. Wish the Inspector had been here today to see the flooding and chaos, might just have influenced his thinking. Oh, I forgot, he won’t be living here, nor will any of the Conservative majority who pushed all these plans through.
Yep – it is all predictable on the EA Flood Maps (in dark blue), we know it and ‘they’ know it, it happened last time / this time / and will happen the next time.
But ‘they’ are not listening – elections are coming up…………….
Back in August ( the big flood ) attention was quite rightly around those who lost their homes , but I hear that some of the unfinished houses on the Eon site were flooded too ( the floors having to be re- made apparently ).
Can anyone confirm that for me please ? – as Cllr’s Hudson and Cutmore have been
quoted in the paper , saying people who live on or near modern developments are better off – flood design wise!!!!.
Any local knowledge would be appreciated……thanks – JIM.
At the moment the forecast is for another very heavy band of rain to come in for Sunday and last for some time. As most fields still have lying water and drainage ditches etc. are still full looks like we could be in for yet more floods.

Yes, place your bets – Fairgel Interchange / Rayleigh Weir / Watery Lane are best
avoided on Monday I would suggest , because the forecast is rain Friday ,showers
Saturday and a wind & rain “‘storm” on Sunday.
