Flats Refused in Lancaster Road

People sometimes say to us that the District Council will support almost any planning application for flats.

However, this is not the case.

For example, a planning application at 4 Lancaster Road, Rayleigh, has just been refused. This was to demolish a an existing building and replace it with 8 flats.

Officers recommended refusal on the grounds of:

  • It would be intrusive and unneighbourly, out of scale and character with the local pattern of development, and would have a serious effect on the neighbours.
  • Insufficient offstreet parking.
  • No assessment carried out for any effect on protected species of mammals, reptiles and amphibians.
  • It was refused without coming to the committee.
