Essex County Council cuts the highways budget in half in their latest budget agreed by a meeting of the full council last week.
The Essex Liberal Demcrat group had proposed a budget amendment that would have given an additional £21.6 million to be invested in:
- Road/pavement maintenance (including keeping the Highway Ranger service) and other vital infrastructure
- Mental health and social care of young people
- Supporting people with the cost of living crisis
- More help for families and older people
With the our highways and footpaths now in a state of ‘managed decline’, the future looks bleak under the Conservative administration at Essex County Council.
