The new Rayleigh Weir Fire Station becomes operational at 6 pm tomorrow.

And at the same time, the old station in Castle Road, Rayleigh, closes.

  • RDC should relocate the waste disposal site to a more appropriate position and buy the fire station site. This would be a great location for a new health care centre. We keep hearing that there is no land available in Rayleigh to accommodate one!!!

  • It seems it’s easy enough to put a bus stop outside something when it suits the bus company – Priory Chase is a good example of that. I agree that the Fire Station is in a good location for a health centre – it certainly is central.

  • I can see where you are coming from GreenBelt – although the waste site is owned by the County County, and it would be up to the NHS to buy the land, RDC could certainly play a role.

However I think the health care centre needs to be in a location with a bus stop outside.

  • I agree that this could be the best site we are likely to find and there is certainly no need for the refuge centre to be in the middle of the town.

Chris – is this something your Group and put forward?

  • Admin, I can also see your point but Rawreth Industrial and the Eldon Way estates are not in the ownership of RDC but they are prepared to move them just because it suits their core strategy plan.
Further, if land is needed by the NHS, I would assume that funding is already available. Lets rattle a few cages!

  • Greenbelt,

SEE PCT, who are responsible for health facilities in this area, have recently told me there is no funding for new facilities in this area (ie Rayleigh, Hockley, Rochford). If we want new facilities we will indeed have to rattle cages but I do not see why we should not try, especially if a good site, a scare commodity, is available.

  • If not a Health Centre how about a Sure Start Centre preferably the one ear marked for Down Hall School.

A much better location especially as it is next door to a successful Toddler Group and near to the library which also holds popular Parent and Baby sessions. Good transport links as well. I would have thought this would be an ideal central location.

  • I understand Sure Start are having a purpose built area at Grove School, which would be away from children and have its own access. I believe they are looking at sites either side of the town which these two areas would meet.

Maybe the station site could be used for something the community as a whole can use. Maybe two small on its own for a swimming pool although if the tip was moved as previously said or something along them lines where it is available for everyone in the community.
