We’ve had the following email from the REv Paul Trathen:

Just a reminder that there will be an initial gathering tomorrow to begin some planning and thinking about the formation of a Trust for a Friends of St Nicholas Rawreth group. Such a group will provide a structure going forward which will have care of, and concern for, the maintenance of the built heritage aspects of St Nicholas’ building, and is intended to be of interest for those who are not regular, committed members of the worshipping church family, but who nonetheless, for whatever reasons, have a concern for the material fabric and presence of the building.

The gathering will be in the church building for a 7.30pm start – in this initial meeting you will be able to hear from two people who have been involved in the creation and operation of a Friends group for St Nicholas church in Tillingham, on the Dengie. They will be able to offer help to ‘visualise’ how the thing can work and are happy to take questions and offer thoughts and answers.

Anyone is most welcome to attend.

  • Paul told me today that there was quite a good turn-out – 24 people.

Roughly half are active ‘spiritually’ in the Church already, the other half aren’t active church-goers, but want to help from a community / heritage point of view.

A few more people would be most welcome…. particularly if you live in the Laburnum / Priory area, you have a lovely village church in your parish, you don’t have to a church-goer to get involved and help maintain it…
