Do You Think There Are Any New Buildings In the District That Deserve An Award?

Every year the District Council gives out awards for Design, Heritage and Conservation. They are basically our district’s prizes for good architecture and renovation.

They are now asking for nominations for 2008. Only schemes or developments that have been completed in the last 2 years can be nominated. The deadline for nominations to be submitted is the 25th July 2008.

This years Award categories include:

Residential development “Renovations to existing developments or well designed new developments that make a positive contribution to the character of the area.”

Development or renovation within a Conservation Area “Works which have enhanced the appearance of a Conservation Area.”

Listed Buildings – renovation, conversion and /or extension “Renovation that has brought back important historical features, or modernisation without detracting from individual character and heritage.”

Non-residential schemes, including office, leisure facilities & industrial development ” Non-residential development which is well designed and makes a positive contribution to the character of an area and enhances its sense of place”.

Environmental improvement schemes “Enhances quality of life, community well-being or benefits local wildlife. For example, playground renovations, urban landscaping or sensitive management of a wildlife site”

Site improvement and management Improvements to site planning including aesthetics, access and design”
