We welcome today’s news that the police have finally issued a ‘direction to leave’ notice to travellers who have illegally occupied the land behind Rayleigh Leisure Centre.

Lib Dem Councillors have been supporting several concerned residents in the area and have been liaising with the Council to ensure that swift action was taken.

‘Direction to Leave’ notice served on Traveller encampment

A ‘Direction to Leave’ notice under section 61 of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994, has been served on a group of Travellers on an area rear of Rayleigh Leisure Centre.

Rochford District Council has been liaising with Essex Countywide Traveller Unit (ECTU) and the police in relation to this matter.

Essex Police have subsequently served the notice today (MONDAY June 8), which gives the group 24 hours to vacate the site. If they remain on site after this time an application will be made to the court for a summons.
