Council Car Parks Continue To Be A Cash Cow

With the most recent ‘Financial Management and Performance Report’ being published we wonder if the extra revenue that the Council is collecting from its car parks will be reinvested into helping our town centres and High Streets.

Councils have long been criticised for their ‘cash cow’ approach to car parking charges.

The Department for Communities and Local Government warn that councils should not “use parking as a cash cow”.

The latest figures from Rochford District Council show that they could ‘net’ an additional £118,000 in revenue from Pay & Display car parking charges this year.

  • We need to encourage everyone back to high streets with cheaper parking otherwise we will lose the wonderful shops we are just about hanging on to. Free parking at retail parks is great
