Conservatives Throw Out Our Plans For Public Speaking At Planning Meetings

The Conservatives have blocked our plans to allow a limited amount of public speaking at the District Council’s planning meetings.

Ron and Chris proposed allowing up to two members of the public to speak in favour of an application , and up to two members of the public to speak against. We felt that it would give councillors more information before they voted on a planning application, and be fairer to our residents as well.

Unfortunately the Conservatives didn’t back us – in fact they used their block vote against us and we lost by 28 votes to three. Every Conservative present voted aganst, which is a pity, as we hoped that a few of them at least might have defied their whip.

However we did have the support of the lone Labour Councillor, Maureen Vince. Thanks Maureen!
