At the West Area Committee meeting tonight, Tory Councillor John Pullen announced that the Conservative Group were planning to cut the proposed housing figures for Rayleigh from 1800 to 740. We asked whether they were planning to add a separate figure for Rawreth – we were given assurances after the meeting that they were not planning any housing allocation for Rawreth.
This is extremely good news. Well done to the hundreds of Rayleigh people who responded to the council consultation – it shows you can make a difference!. Well done also to campaigners such as Mike Nobes, and to the Echo and the Rayleigh Times for highlighting the issues. And all credit to those Conservative Rayleigh councillors who realised that sticking with 1800 would be political suicide (not to mention just plain unfair) and won over their colleagues in other parts of the district.
740 homes is still a lot – about five times the housing at the Park School development – but it’s much better than 1800.
We’ll write more about this later….
Well done to everybody who turned up tonight, it just shows that if you keep pushing for what you believe then eventually you will win. AND AS FAR AS HEYNONYMOUS is concerned see you around, buy you a beer if you can come clean. Do we have a HeyNonymous on the electoral roll?
I have no idea about the electoral register but I can tell you that there were 604 Jedi living in Rochford district in the 2001 census! Perhaps the anonymous person is one of them.
Gutted that I couldn’t make it last night. How many people were there?
Hi Alison. About 60 or 70 members of the public, I think. The Echo thought the figure was higher.
