Today Jackie visited the Rayleigh offices of the Rochford and Rayleigh Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB). This is her report:
The staff of the CAB were kind enough to show me around their offices at the Civic Suite in Rayleigh today and tell me what services they provide free to the public.
I was amazed to find that there are currently 75 people who give their time, experience and expertise on a voluntary basis to support the work of the bureau. The team provide advice and guidance on a wide range of topics including benefits, debt, employment, relationships, housing, legal, consumer, financial, health, utilities and tax. They can also signpost people to other organisations that can help. Last year alone they dealt with 4,419 new clients and 10,239 new issues.
They are a completely independent and impartial organisation and offer advice freely and in confidence.
Earlier this year they launched a website which allows people to get advice online via a national system. You can access this by going to www.rochfordcab.org.uk.
