One of the good things about our district is that crime levels are comparatively low.

It’s all the more shocking that there’s been an armed robbery at Rayleigh station this morning, and a bystander is shot, and there’s a pool of blood…. and he’s now in hospital.

Our thoughts go out to the victim , a commuter who was apparently trying to help….

Update: the BBC report on this is here

A passer-by has been shot and seriously injured during an armed robbery in Rayleigh in Essex.

Two masked gunmen threatened a security guard and fired a number of shots after targeting the security van near the town’s railway station.

The victim, in his 20s and thought to be a bystander, was taken to Southend hospital with serious injuries.

The robbers escaped in a white Ford Escort which was later found abandoned in Eastcheap, Rayleigh.

It is believed they may have got into another vehicle.

Detectives in Essex are appealing to anyone who witnessed the robbery to contact them.

  • Let hope they are not relying on the CCTV at Rayleigh station, as the images are of such poor quality. BTP could not use the images to find out who stole my bike in November lasted year. and they put it in wrighting.
