Despite still no reopening of Rayleigh Police Station front counter (another Mark Francois iniative) and no CCTV (another RDC project going nowhere fast), Rochford District Council are asking, yet again, for your views on tacking crime and antisocial behaviour in our District.

There is still time to have your say in the Rochford District Community Safety Partnership public consultation aimed at seeking the views of Rochford District residents to help identify their key priorities in tackling crime and anti-social behaviour.Â
Residents and businesses in the district have until Wednesday 14 October 2020 to take part in a series of questions aimed at establishing experiences of residents in terms of their feelings of personal safety and their views on what is important to them in addressing a range of crime types.Â

The Police service is being reduced as the population increases. And the criminals know it. I am also concerned that the Director of Public Prosecutions too often avoids prosecuting because it is ‘not in the public interest’, whatever that means. Our Police need to be supported and they need to be accessible. Although I am a bit cynical about this consultation, we should all make an effort to show genuine public concern about this vital service. Otherwise we will lose so much, but still be asked to pick up the bill for other more lawless areas.
In order for people to feel safe, we need to have a visible and accessible police force.
The front desk closures undermine this and consequently public safety.
