It is with the heaviest of hearts that we write to inform you of this sad and tragic news, that our fellow Lib Dem friend and colleague, Craig Cannell sadly passed away on 14th November 2021.

Craig was first elected in early 2018 as Rochford District Councillor for Downhall & Rawreth Ward. In 2021 he became a County Councillor when he won the Rayleigh North County Division for the Lib Dems. This year he was also elected as a Rayleigh Town Councillor. In his day job, Craig worked for Transport for London who was kind enough to allow him regular time off for his County Council duties.

Craig had great knowledge of transport issues both with TFL and before with future strategy at Fords, which informed his work as a County Councillor.

One of Craig’s greatest achievements was his pioneering work with others to create the Rochford Financial Hub which brought banking back to Rochford when all the high street banks had left town. The Hub remains a thriving service for residents and local businesses in Rochford.

Craig was the epitome of a dynamic, intelligent and hard-working Liberal Democrat Councillor. He engaged with local residents working hard to find solutions to local problems. Craig was a great ambassador for the Lib Dems in our community.

All our thoughts and condolences are with Craig’s fiancee, Charlotte and his family in these sad times.

He will be greatly missed but always remembered.

James, Chris, Bruce & Steve
