About 10 million of us watched the first televised election debate in our history and many were pleasantly surprised that it turned out to be better than expected. No major gaffes or killer quotes, but a fair debate which will hopefully help people to decide between the parties on a number of issues.
The debate gave Nick Clegg the opportunity to put clear water between the Lib Dems and the ?two old parties?. He offered a refreshing change from the two party politics of old and neither of his opponents seemed entirely sure how to deal with him. In a survey following the debate, 51% of those who were asked believed that Clegg was the victor that evening.
