The Rayleigh Chamber of Trade reports :

Rayleigh Town Council has completed phase one of the renewal of CCTV in Rayleigh town centre.

The existing CCTV equipment in the High Street and Eastwood Road was installed over five years ago and does not fit police criteria for offender identification. Last year the Council embarked on a programme of consultations with the police, the Chamber of Trade, a local CCTV specialist and the District Council.

This resulted in the creation of a three-phase project to replace cameras at existing sites and the installation of cameras at new locations. A total of ten sites were identified and a Community Initiatives Fund grant of ?10,000 has been awarded to the project.

Phase one includes fixed and dome cameras with digital recorders being installed at three locations. These cameras will be monitored to allow situations to be reported to the police whenever incidents occur…..
