Our Lib Dem colleagues next door in Chelmsford are pretty happy this weekend after another by-election win:

Chelmsford Liberal Democrats are celebrating another stunning victory after James Gardner won the Moulsham & Central by-election. The result was Lib Dem 1051 55% (up 14.6%); Con 640 33.5% (down 14.6%); Lab 153 8% (down 3.5%); UKIP 67 3.5% (up 3.5%).

The win follows hot on the heels of the Lib Dem gain in Broomfield & The Walthams on 11th September 2007 and the five Lib Dem gains in May’s round of elections.

Lib Dem Group Leader Mike Mackrory said “I would like to congratulate James and the team on a fantastic campaign. I know that James will work hard for the people of Moulsham & Central.”

On the Chelmsford Borough Council there are now 31 Conservatives; 26 Liberal Democrats and no Labour.
