The application for 100 homes at Brays Lane was passed by 20 votes to 3, with 3 abstentions. This was despite strong opposition from the public.

Approval was moved by one of the ward members, Heather Glynn and seconded by Terry Cutmore. The site is included in the council’s proposed Core Strategy for housing, and a couple of councillors called it “the least worst option”.

The three councillors who voted against were Michael and Diane Hoy from Hullbridge, and the other ward member , Tracy Capon.

  • The new bus entrance to K.E.S. is long overdue as this has been going on for years. The fear has always been that it would come as a condition of housing development. But I would think people in Spencer Gardens and other roads near the school will be pleased.

  • Just to counter what brucesmart has posted,my family and I having moved to this almost rural setting are astounded to hear you say we would be pleased,we are profoundly shocked to say the least this proposal will shatter all living in this quite community. This whole debacle is a stab in the back for all concerned we have all been let down by all who are supposed to represent us. The discussion concerning the school link should not even be on the table, King Edmunds has already out reached its capacity and failing completely because of this a secondary school in Wakerking would of solved the traffic congestion at a stroke, aleviating an already over stetched Ashingdon Rd as is. As for the housing it is just simply unsustainable, schools dentists doctors and overall traffic congestion will overwhelm the whole area including Stambridge, just afoot note to add I hope now the proposal for housing now opens up in the Hall Rd area but I surely wont be holding my breath… Shame on you councillors

  • Gary – I thought the congestion in the roads at 7.30 to 8.00 and when K.E.S. ends would be something residents would like ended. Sadly the new entrance comes with housing and this always was the worry. Don’t agree that K.E.S. is a failing school though.
