An application has been submitted to Rochford District Council for a new travellers site in Goldsmith Drive.

Proposal: Proposed use of land as a traveller site comprising 2 mobile homes, day room and touring caravans together with access, hardstanding and cesspit on land opposite 2 Goldsmith Drive, Rayleigh.
Site Location: Land opposite 2 Goldsmith Drive Rayleigh SS6 9QX
This is a part retrospective application for the proposed use of land at Goldsmith Drive for a Gypsy/Traveller pitch comprising two mobile homes, the construction of a separate day room building, along with the siting of two touring caravans, with associated hardstanding. The application was revised on 23rd July 2018 to omit land originally shown to form part of the site but not in the ownership of the applicant.

As expected, the Lib Dem team has been contacted by numerous local residents concerned by this application.

Rochford DIstrict Council officers are recommending approval with 10 conditions attached.

RECOMMENDATION: APPROVE temporary permission of 5 years personal to applicant.

Will this be just another 'unofficial' site being made 'official' as we've seen happen in other parts of the district?

Due to the 'official' travellers site (as per core strategy) not being developed by the council, the Conservatives have left residents and themselves in a rather weak position, as the argument for not approving these unofficial sites has been weakened somewhat by the lack of travellers sites in our district and should any decision be appealed, the planning inspector can easily use this against the council.
