In what could be considered one of the longest running projects in the history of Rochford District Council (we’re not sure if this is true, but it sure feels like it), an application has been received from Rochford District Council to itself for a change of use for the Crown Hill toilets. It could be considered as ironic, as now the Council has now deemed the building worthy of commercial letting but some Councillors will tell you that the Crown Hill building was considered in a state of disrepair when it came to justifying the need to build a new toilet block!

The question now is who will take up the task of renovation if these costs are beyond the pockets of the District Council on the basis that this will be leased to those who are perhaps foolhardy to consider this proposition?

The change of use includes

  • A1 (SHOPS)
  • A2 (FINANCIAL AND PROFESSIONAL SERVICES)
  • A3 (RESTAURANTS AND CAFÉS)
  • A5 (HOT FOOD TAKEAWAYS)
  • B1 (A)(B)(C) (OFFICE, RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT AND LIGHT INDUSTRIAL)

The full application can be viewed here

We sure hope that a use can be found for the building as it’s prominence in our town is one that is cherished by many residents.
