One of the items at Rawreth Parish Council last night was a brief presentation regarding a Church of England anniversary next year.

It’s going to be 400 years since the completion of the King James edition of the Bible – and the man who oversaw the translation was Lancelot Andrewes, whose family home was in Rawreth! Andrewes became Bishop of Chichester, which is how the Chichester hotel obtained its name.

There will be a number of events held to commemorate the anniversary, in conjunction with Chichester Cathedral and the Essex Records Office.

They will culminate in a weekend next September, with an exhibition in Rawreth, and a ‘Jacobean Evening’ of music and other stuff.
