Have you heard of the “South Essex Parking Partnership”? It’s a partnership of 6 councils in Essex for the purpose of enforcing on-street parking restrictions. In other words, it employs the people who give you a parking ticket if you park on a yellow line.
From next month, this partnership not only enforces the rules on yellow lines, it will also be involved in the creation of new yellow lines. They are taking this over from County Highways , who will however still be responsible for creating parking restrictions for highways safety reasons.
There’s also a change of approach here, the income from parking enforcement seems to have more of an emphasis.
On the positive side, the District Council is now willing to consider residents parking schemes – something the Conservatives have opposed up till now.
It would be great if us residents around the Rayleigh station area could have a permit for the one or two hours when there is no parking allowed in our road. As far as I am aware, these restrictions were put in place to stop commuters parking all day, which is great, but this is always a problem when any of us have visitors during the week. Also, there is a dangerous bend at the end of our road that would benefit considerably from having double yellow lines painted on it – how do we contact the new parking partnership? Is there a residents enquiry page?
Karen and Andy , thanks for your comments … but I should mention that residents parking schemes would need to be supported by a majority of people in that area … and there would be a charge for having a residents parking permit.
Please drop me an email at cllrchrisblack@googlemail.com regarding the bend and and I’ll see what we can do.
Couldn’t the council work with the rail companies to make station parking free at weekends, then remove roadside parking restrictions at the weekend?
