There are four big items on the agenda for next Tuesday’s Full Council meeting:

– a motion to keep free parking on Saturday afternoons. This looks like being a very tight vote.
-? whether or not to finally approve the Allocations Document, which has just been okayed by the government inspector
– whether or not to approve the Hockley Area Action plan
– setting up of a ‘flood forum’

It would nice to have some people in the public gallery! It’s harder to argue that free car parking or protecting the green belt is important, if absolutely nobody from the public bothers to turn up!

The meeting starts at 7:30 in the Civic Suite, opposite Holy Trinity Church. The public can come along to listen, but can’t speak. (Unless someone has submitted a public question).

  • You will have to forgive me for being cynical Chris, but it doesn’t matter whether or not the public gallery is packed to the rafters, the full Tory Whip will be on and the Allocations Document and probably the Hockley Area Action Plan will be passed with a large majority no matter what arguments anyone puts forward. It’s what the ruling elite want and what they want they get no matter what their constituents, who elected them and who pay them, think. They know best, we just ignorant plebs.

  • Christine, you are very probably right re the Allocations Document. Though there have been meetings on this in the past where I have been very glad to have Rawreth parish Councillors in the public gallery to give me moral support! – for example

    But the car parking issue is a different matter. There may only be a handful of votes in it, 8 Tories are already defying the party whip on this and a string showing in the public gallery could very easily sway two or three.

  • Despite a number of Councillors making some critical remarks about the RDC lack of effective public consultation an a tow the party line Inspector report – all the usual Tory Whip suspects managed to
    get the plan through tonight.

    A gallant effort too on Saturday afternoon parking charges but again the Whip ensured a 19 – 14 vote win
    to charge on Saturday all day (closer this time Oz –
    I live in hope of a Rayleigh Spring ).
    I have to acknowledge the Tory (Toby Mountain)he showed some guts in leading the anti-motion in
    defiance of the regime that orchestrates this Council.

    Chris Black and John Mason also spoke well in support.
