  • Trev,

Back in October I sent the following email to County Highways:

“Just to say I’m getting very mixed comments from residents re the resurfacing at Downhall Park Way.

For example, one email from a resident praising the quality of the work, and a couple of phone calls from another resident who thought the work was very poor, with a ridge in the middle.

Presumably the work will be signed off by someone from ECC ? – I’d be interested to know their opinion.”

    The response from County was:

    “Dear Cllr Black,

All works are checked on site after completion. I will speak with the Engineer concerned when he returns to the office and ask for his opinion on the works.”

I don’t seem to have heard anything from them since….. But I took a photo today to send to them

  • I absolutely agree with comments on the quality. I’m glad others have noticed. Its such a poor finish and I consider it worse than than the original road surface. Its still got loose gravel everywhere.

Hard to believe someone has actually “signed that off”.

  • I don’t know how durable the surface in Downhall Park Way is, but it certainly looks bad, and there are still stone chippings all over the place. It reminds me of one of those bad driveways on BBC Rogue Traders.

I’m not surprised, though. The pavements in Downhall Road had a rough finish and tar was left all over the verges, and the pavements in Rawreth Lane look better but have lots of dips that become puddles. Quality of work just seems to be very poor.

  • The surface is breaking up just in the centre near the postbox opposite Bristol Close.
The amount of loose chippings that still remain are also damaging to cars – or so Toomeys tell me!

  • Chris. I too checked over the weekend and it is indeed breaking up, a few more weeks of frost and then some sun in June/July and its basically going to completely break up. County Highways have got to come and have a look. I agree there is no way this was signed of. The finish is rippled and uneven and will continue to break up, causing more car damage.

  • This weekend the new surface is becoming more noticeably broken up – chippings are flying up when you drive over them and in a few weeks this is going to be awful. Perhaps they should get those yellow lines down quick!!

Also the pothole repair under the railway bridge has sunken badly too – why do a job if it is not done properly.
