The Future May be Bright, but the Future’s not an Orangery

The planning meeting on January 20th threw out an application for an orangery at New Hall in Sutton Road. Basically , the scheme was for a very large conservatory, and it broke the green belt rules.

Some councillors felt we should grant an exception as it is a very well restored and lovely house, but Chris Black summed up most councillors’ feelings when he said that it would set a precedent, and that he had more sympathy for owners of small houses in the green belt who needed extra bedrooms for their children, but couldn’t get permission (for the bedrooms, not the children!)
