Park School Playing Fields

Archaeologists have discovered an Anglo-Saxon Cemetery on part of the Park School playing fields- on land that is going to be built on.

Apparently the bodies that were found date back to the 5th or 6th centuries. It is quite fascinating to think that Rawreth Lane might have been a highway more than 1500 years ago. Back in those days Essex was a independent country, with its own kings. If you want to learn more, good starting places might be

We heard about this recently but told the archaeologists that we wouldn’t mention it unless it was publicised elsewhere. Now it has been in the Evening Echo we thought we’d include it here.
