111 Improvements ?

There’s another big publicity boast on the County Council Website:

Nearly four roads a day were improved in Essex last month as part of an effort to provide the best quality road network in Britain for Essex residents.

During March, a total of 111 roads, pavements or footpaths were upgraded representing ?3.6 million of investment. Recent road surveys have shown Essex?s roads are improving at a rapid rate, with the county now in the top 25% of all highway authority areas in the country for condition of its roads.

Network priority routes, or ?A? routes, have already seen significant improvements in recent years with the latest survey showing 96% were in good or excellent condition.

We’ve been sent the official Essex County County list of scheduled highways works carried out in March.

You can see it here.

We’re wondering why only 2 of the 111 improvements are in Rochford District – we’ll let you know what we find out.

UPDATE : These figures still look odd. But it may be that highways departments in the other parts of Essex had money left over in their budgets , and with the end of the financial year coming up, there was a sudden splurge of spending. (And no doubt County councillors keen to look after their own areas with elections coming up wouldn’t have objected to this!) . The highways engineers for our part of Essex may have had a tighter budget, and sensibly programmed what work they could do more early in the financial year to ensure that none of their money was wasted or lost.

  • The traffic lights have been rephased at the junction with Downhall Park Way since the roadworks in Rawreth Lane 2 or 3 weeks ago, can we have them phased back, I find myself waiting 2 or more minutes before they change, it used to be seconds before if no traffic travelling along Rawreth lane, also the council seem slow in replacing the white lines following road works.
