Mike Pitt On the NHS

A Downhall and Rawreth resident (not one of our team) asked Mike Pitt “Will you keep the NHS free at the point of use?” – and received this response:

mike pitt rosette

Yes. I will be alongside my Liberal Democrat colleagues in fighting to keep NHS services free at the point of use.
We have made the NHS one of our priorities at this election: we are committed to increasing the funding by ?8billion by the end of the parliament, and are the only party to have provided a clear and costed plan for this funding. I am pleased some of the others agree it is needed now.
If you would like more detail I am happy to do so, but I thought a short answer to a short question would be appreciated.
Thanks for getting in touch,

About the author, admin

  • I have a question too – will you turn up to any public events or is it too far from Cambridge? Come on if you want to be taken seriously you’re going to have to try harder!

  • Forget Pitt the Remote, meet Pitt the Invisible….he could give Gino a run for his money in the invisibility stakes….do they have the Internet in far away Cambridge ? Does he actually read the web site of his local party ?

  • Admin, do you know why other candidates addresses are, quite correctly, listed on the electoral web site but Pitt the Invisible is shown as:

(address in the South East Cambridgeshire Constituency)

  • Admin, depends if you have paid in or not…..although what that’s got to do with Pitt the Invisible is lost on me…..maybe Jim the Negative has a view ????

  • Not living in the constituency is not that unusual for MP’s ( neither the Labour or Green candidates do either ) but they did attend the Hustings – perhaps Mr Pitt
is a paper candidate ( not sure why they do that ).
For me an MP should be resident in order spend enough time to understand local issues, but of course they have to attend the House of Commons too , so some significant commuting for many of them.
But I think the way we are governed is long overdue for radical change , the world has
changed massively in the last 30-40 years and continues to do so, we are not the world power we were and should face up to it and re-design our modus operandi to
    suit.

  • NHS should definitely.be free at point of use for all British citizens. If others need medical attention they should pay a fee up front. A lot if overseas countries want money to use their health service from foreign nationals, and given the current over straining of our NHS resources we should follow suit.

As for Pitt the invisible, admin, is he a serious candidate or not. If he is he needs to be seen out and about in the constituency. If he was to win would he move here?

    • Christine, yes if Mike overturned Mark Francois’ 22,338 majority at the last election and won he would move here. That’s something I discussed with him before the nomination papers went in.

  • Christine, I’m not sure how one defines ‘serious’ here. Certainly Mike is capable of being a seriously good MP. (Which incidentally shows the Lib Dems strength in depth). And some of us are committing ourselves to some serious amounts of money on this campaign (though admittedly not as much as Linda Kendall spent on her legal challenge).

  • Chris, I can only echo James’s post @ 13. I have not met anybody that does not value the work that you do for everyone around here but please, don’t throw your hard earned money away on this foolhardy venture. Mike has absolutely no chance whatsoever of getting elected as our MP, leaving aside policy issues the guy does not even live here !

  • Oz, I’m grateful for your concern, but things are OK.

Besides – and this shows that some political soundbites really mean something – as a result of the Lib Dems being in the coalition, like very many people I’m getting a £905 tax cut. Seems fair to give some of that back…!
