There’s been some publicity on local radio and in the local papers about the proposed new Sports Centre at Park School. A lot of this publicity centres around the increase in the council tax that will pay for it.
There probably will be a big council tax rise next spring. But most of the increase will be due to central government or the County council.
We really hope that no-one will try to use the sports centre as camouflage for say, a ?100 per year increase in the council tax when the centre is only responsible for about ?4 or ?5 of it.
Also please remember that this sports centre is a replacement for the one that the District Council has already closed, to allow the County Council to build houses on the site. If the District had held out for a better financial deal with the County, the sports centre might not have needed any council tax increase.
