The surprise news of the week is that the Conservative administration of the District Council has dropped plans to relocate Rayleigh Sports and Social Club and use the land for housing. The club can now stay where it is.

We’ve been concerned about how the club was being treated, so this is welcome news.

About the author, admin

  • So, not worth the paper it’s written on springs to mind , this is a verbatim quote from an open letter ( by Cllr’s Hudson & Cutmore ) pledge dated 21/09/13 – just 6 months ago:-
“Housing North of London Road –
The site boundary is approximately in line with the power transmission pylons visible from London Road. To facilitate this it will be necessary to relocate the Rayleigh Town Sports & Social Club ( a valued facility for our residents), THEY WILL RECEIVE NEW and ENHANCED FACILITIES in recognition of their contribution to Rayleigh Life at no cost to themselves – THIS IS MY PLEDGE.”

Would you buy a used car from this Firm ?.

  • Just spotted another PR spin on the truth in the “in touch – with the truth”
    Leaflet , they say –
“There are no plans to issue a compulsory purchase order on Rawreth Industrial estate?.Its future is up to the landowners .”

    What they ( Cllr’s Hudson & Cutmore ) said 6 months ago , quoted verbatim :-
    “The Council will not use it’s compulsory purchase powers to force this through;
Those powers WILL ONLY BE USED in extremis should a significant majority of businesses and landowners choose to take advantage of the new situation but a minority are found to be delaying progress – This is my pledge.”

    So that’s a maybe we will then…….

  • Strange title really “in touch”. But to be positive this statement does show that changes can be made and that all parties are, hopefully, going to campaign for work on roads, schooling and health care.

  • I for one am not convinced , can you advise when the next Rayleigh Town Council meeting is please – we need to test the committment to mitigate the impacts.

  • Thanks – but that chart says 7th May ? ( please confirm 7th April please) , and is that in the Civic Offices Chamber ?. And how does a member of the public get permission to speak – I would happily pre-submit a précis of the question to the Town Council.

  • I will be there ( hope others on here are there too ?) , does a member of the public have to pre- apply to speak ? – if so how please, Tar – JIM.

  • Members of the public can speak at the start of a meeting. Would advise people to look at the agenda because any statement would need to be related to an agenda item. There can be no A.O.B. as all agenda items have to be notified in advance.

  • I have made contact with the Town Clerk and outlined what I want to speak a bout, so I now expect to be allowed to speak – CHRIS , can we now start a dedicated thread in order to encourage people to attend , maybe ” motivating the Town Council 7th April”.

  • The agenda for the Town Council meeting on 7th April has not yet been formalised –
I have requested the Town Clerk to include an item called Infrastructure Upgrades
Delivery relating to the recently adopted Allocations Document.
    Will keep you posted……JIM.

  • Well folks I am now convinced that the ‘system’ is being used against us ( the plebs),
The Town Clerk has advised me that my topic is not needed on the agenda as the Council have been previously consulted on the Allocations Document and as they cannot guarantee delivery of RDC promises there is no point.

Which is code for we don’t want to know what the electorate are concerned about they will get what we , the ruling party, decide to give them.

I am now abandoning my attempts at democracy and will support class action – the only way it seems, see you on the barricades.

  • Jim, well done for at least trying. It is clear that Town Council/RDC ruling majority have no wish to meet with or listen to those who elect them and pay their expenses. There should be a way for the public to call a meeting with those who are supposed to represent their interests, but the system doesn’t allow that, and you can only get heard under their terms. Perhaps the annual town meeting is the place to go, they can’t stop anyone speaking out there (can they?) If enough people turn up and demand a hearing surely they have to listen. Either that or call the Police and have us all evicted.

  • CHRIS @#12 above –
Can you get it in your next leaflet ( ASAP) to reach a wider audience than on here, I prefer this ‘moderated’ site but it probably only reaches a few dozen people- certainly only a limited number ever post.
To be honest I think the RTC meeting on 23/04 at Sweyne School now needs to be got out via the social media where thousands reside and hundreds turn out ( ie: the Mill Hall in the past ).
I am certainly going to advertise it in the Evening Echo .
