Ron Oatham has made the following suggestion to County Highways about Rayleigh High Street parking. He wrote:

“In view of the many requests from the public and the Chamber of Trade to provide more parking I would like to put forward the following suggestions for consideration when a review is carried out:

(1) Between Byfords butchers and Todmans solicitors Remove yellow lines and add extra 1/2 hour parking bays. Consider changing the loading bay to 1/2 hour parking since it is largely ignored by delivery drivers who park directly outside the shops to which they are delivering.

(2) Outside Iceland Change the loading bay to extra 1/2 hour parking. All shops between the police station and Iceland have a more than adequate service road at the rear and premises on the opposite side of the road are mostly service sector businesses which are unlikely to need deliveries of goods.( I’m told that the Roebuck has an arrangement to use the library car park for its deliveries).

(3) Introduce an all day loading ban between the police station and Iceland to “encourage” the use of the service road.”
