Hullbridge Road, next to Lubards Farm
We have been asked several times in the past about having a pedestrian crossing in Hullbridge Road , next to Lubards Farm. Lots of people visit the facilities there such as Happy Days Nursery , the swimming pool, or the Mushroom Theatre. It can be a busy location…

However we’ve never been able to get this done – partly because of money and partly because it doesn’t match the County Council criteria (eg there is no footway on one side of the road). The county also like to install crossings where many people are already crossing the road . That doesn’t happen here because people are too wary of the traffic! We aware of at least one adult being knocked down here.

However there is a chance of getting this crossing finally agreed this year and to show how much it is needed we are arranging a petition for people to sign – it should be available at some of the premises at the Farm. We will confirm soon…

  • There has also been progress over improvements at Hambro Parade, the turning into and the roundabout next to. The plans are not exactly what we asked for but if carried out may help alleviate some of the problem. However, until thee has been some change to the right turn from Rawreth Lane into Hullbridge Road I cannot see the queues being reduced in the evening.
The crossing at the farm- Highways state that survey data does not support the scheme but the project will be designed with detailed costings. There has been improvement with the two dropped kerbs. Can I add that the campaign for improvements here and at Hambro Parade have cross party support on the Town Council.

  • It would be nice to get a bus shelter as well at the bus stop, one of the only ones now without a shelter. Its a terrible place to wait when its bad weather. We were promised one a couple of years ago but it didnt appear, the modern shelters in some places now really dont take up any room on the pavement.

  • Ron, not necessarily selfish, maybe they did not want to look out of their window onto the back of a shelter. I know that I would’nt and I bet that goes for others too.

  • sorry I havent answered, got wet waiting for a bus so developed a cold!!!!

Its the bus stop or stops at Hambro Parade shops. Badly wanted, must be one of the busier bus stops, always people waiting there and at times quite a queue.

Other bus shelters have been put in along downhall road since permission was granted for this shelter, the majority of bus stops to Southend now have them, its rather rubbing our noses in it I feel.

I do have to say that its a terrible place for a bus stop anyway as there isnt really enough room to stand there (from Hullbridge to Rayleigh direction)when there are a few folk in the queue without being in one of the drives.

  • One of the ideas for Hambro Parade on the up side is a lay by for buses to pull into, thus reducing queues going up the hill. The stop will have to be moved and the possibility of a shelter will be improved as there should be greater space and not be very close to a house. Main issue may be accesss to drives.
