CHRISTMAS LIGHTS

THE SWITCH ON EVENT WILL BE HELD ON THURSDAY 29th NOVEMBER 2012
BETWEEN 4.15 and 6.30pm

Rayleigh Town Council is pleased to announce that arrangements for this year?s Christmas
Lights are well underway. The High Street will be closed to traffic from Crown Hill to
Church Street from 1.45pm to 8.00pm and traffic will be diverted along Eastwood
Road/Websters Way. Access to the Bellingham Lane car parks will continue up until the
start of the event at 4.15pm. Taxis will be relocated to Bellingham Lane and in front of the
Holy Trinity Church at the top of the High Street.

The lights will be switched on by Danny Young who appeared as Warren Baldwin in
Coronation Street and was a very successful contestant in ?Dancing on Ice?.

More information about Danny?s new theatre school can be found at:
www.dannyyoungtheatreschool.co.uk.

Southend United Football Club players will also be
on stage at the switch on with our Olympic Torch Bearers. BBC Essex will broadcast their
Drive Time show live from the High Street at 6.30pm with presenters Ian Wyatt and Steve
Scruton.

Junior and Senior School Choirs will perform as well as the Mushroom Theatre
Company and Danny Young?s Theatre School. Other attractions include the Town Crier,
Father Christmas and Sleigh, Hot Chestnuts, Children?s Fun Fair Rides and stalls. Prizes
for the winners of Amos Estate Agent?s colouring competition and the Town Council?s
Chairman?s Christmas card competition will be presented on the night. High Street shops
will remain open throughout the event and this should be a fun filled evening to bring the
community of Rayleigh together once again to celebrate this very special time of the year.

The Town Council is making a change to the ?Best Dressed Shop? competition this year
and will judge both the windows and interiors of all businesses during December with the
trophy being presented to the winning business by our Chairman Councillor Robin Dray
near to Christmas.
