We now know the answer to the “electricity mystery” The energy company EDF Energy has a scheme to replace the overhead electricity cables and pylons to the west of Rayleigh and replace them with underground cables and just 5 towers. But this isn’t a proper planning application – although they are consulting the district council.
EDF advise that the whole scheme would take about four years to carry out, so nothing is going to happen overnight.
As the proposal would get rid of over 20 towers and replace them with only 5, it should improve the landscape. However we want to find out how big those 5 towers will be…
