The Echo has reported today:
AIR pollution kills 375 people a year in south Essex with many more having years shaved of their lives, health experts estimate Councils are considering lowering speed limits and urging people to reduce car use as new figures from Public Health England laid bare the impact of car emissions and industry on people?s lives…..
Their complete article is here, but although it quotes estimated figures of 115 deathes per year in Southend from air pollution, it doesn’t quote a figure for our district. So we’ve hunted around on the web and found the information from Public Health England here They estimate that 5.7 % of deaths in our district of people over the age of 25 were attributed to air pollution – 44 per year.
Related – I have a dialogue underway with ECC ( Highways) , and in short they have no plans in place for Rawreth Lane / London Road as they have ,in principal ,already
agreed the number of houses proposed by RDC will work.
There are some words about Developers have to satisfy criteria in the Planning Applicaction ( to RDC ) but, as we know , this will be piece- meal by different developers with no cumulative overview . By the way , did you spot the Countryside
Traffic survey over the Easter Weekend ( obviously very representative – NOT) , this
should form part of the objections to the PA.
And apparently ” Construction” phase traffic is classified as ‘temporary’ so does’nt
dictate the design of junctions etc; – even if it is 10 years it is ‘temporary’ , what a
nonsense – simply a way of getting round the rules and avoiding any payout by ECC
and developers. I have written to the H&S Executive office in Chelmsford and await a response as I believe that traffic will ultimately be the biggest negative impact of the
Core Plan for our patch and the whole area ( lots of Core Plans ) . The heading of
this thread being very much part of the story.
