Domestic Abuse Awareness Week runs from the 19th to the 24th of November.

Councillor Jo McPherson has told us about one council initiative this year:

… if you have any unwanted mobile phones, Sat navs, MP3’s or digital cameras then these are being collected at collection points throughout the district (our council offices and Civic Suite being one collection point…. others being RHA office in Rochford, any of the district libraries or children centres, Greensward school and the Methodist church on Rayleigh High street.)
_
All personal details will be erased. Mobile phones which are of a certain quality will be modified for victims of domestic abuse to use. All other items will be recycled and funds raised will go to support domestic abuse work within the district.

… for every phone donated the person receives a raffle ticket and the lucky winner will receive a new blackberry phone (courtesy of 02).
